DTC Troubleshooting: P1673 (22)
DTC P1673 (22):
MCM Relay Stays Activated
NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data, and review the general troubleshooting information Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
3. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), then wait at least 30 seconds. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II) again.
4. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1673 (22) in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the screen indicate FAILED?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
If the screen indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at MCM relay 1 and the BCM module. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 3.
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Turn the battery module switch OFF High Voltage Safety.
7. Remove the IPU lid IPU Lid Removal/Installation.
8. Disconnect BCM module connector A (40P).
9. Check for continuity between body ground and BCM module connector terminal A11.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair short to ground the wire between MCM relay 1 and the BCM module (A11), then go to step 11.
NO -
Go to step 10.
10. Test MCM relay 1 Testing and Inspection.
Is the relay OK?
YES -
Go to step 18.
NO -
Replace MCM relay 1, then go to step 11.
11. Reconnect all connectors.
12. Reinstall the IPU lid IPU Lid Removal/Installation, then turn the battery module switch ON High Voltage Safety.
13. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
14. Clear the DTC with the HDS Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
15. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and wait at least 30 seconds, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
16. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P1673 (22) indicated?
YES -
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at MCM relay 1 and the BCM module, then go to step 1.
NO -
Go to step 17.
17. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1673 (22) in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the screen indicate PASSED?
YES -
Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 16, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�
NO -
If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at MCM relay 1 and the BCM module, then go to step 1. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 15.
18. Reconnect all connectors.
19. Reinstall the IPU lid IPU Lid Removal/Installation, then turn the battery module switch ON High Voltage Safety.
20. Update the BCM module if it does not have the latest software Testing and Inspection, or substitute a known-good BCM module Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
21. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0), and wait at least 30 seconds, then turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
22. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P1673 (22) indicated?
YES -
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at MCM relay 1 and the BCM module. If the BCM module was updated, substitute a known-good BCM module Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, then go to step 21. If the BCM module was substituted, go to step 1.
NO -
Go to step 23.
23. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1673 (22) in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the screen indicate PASSED?
YES -
If the BCM module was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the BCM module was substituted, replace the original BCM module Service and Repair. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 22, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�
NO -
If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at MCM relay 1 and the BCM module. If the BCM module was updated, substitute the BCM module Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, then go to step 21. If the BCM module was substituted, go to step 1. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 21.
