DTC Troubleshooting: P15A4 (81)

DTC P15A4 (81):

A/C Compressor Driver Relay Stays Activated

NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data, and review the general troubleshooting information Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Clear the DTC with the HDS Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

3. Make sure the ambient temperature is above 41 °F (5 °C).

4. Start the engine, and let it idle for 5 minutes.

5. Turn the A/C on, and set it to 72 °F (22 °C).

6. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P15A4 (81) in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the screen indicate FAILED?

YES -

Go to step 7.

NO -

If the screen indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the A/C compressor driver and the BCM module. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 1.

7. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).

8. Turn the battery module switch OFF High Voltage Safety.

9. Remove the cover (A). Check the connections at the A/C compressor power cable connector (B) in the engine compartment.





Are the connections OK?

YES -

Go to step 10.

NO -

Repair the connections, then go to step 16.

10. Disconnect the A/C compressor power cable connector (D).

NOTE:

- If the A/C compressor power cable connector terminals are wet, dry them with a clean towel.
Do not use compressed air.
- Use the 250 V range of your insulated resistance tester, and wear gloves.





11. Check for continuity between A/C compressor power cable terminals A and B, B and C, and C and A individually.

Is there continuity?

YES -

Go to step 12.

NO -

Replace the A/C compressor Service and Repair, then go to step 16.

12. Reconnect the A/C compressor power cable.

13. Remove the IPU lid IPU Lid Removal/Installation.

14. Disconnect the A/C compressor power connector (A) from the A/C compressor driver.






15. Check for continuity between A/C compressor power cable terminals A and B, B and C, and C and A individually.





Is there continuity?

YES -

Replace the A/C compressor driver Service and Repair, then go to step 16.

NO -

Replace the motor power cable Service and Repair, then go to step 16.

16. Reconnect all connectors.

17. Reinstall the IPU lid IPU Lid Removal/Installation, then turn the battery module switch ON High Voltage Safety.

18. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

19. Clear the DTC with the HDS Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

20. Make sure the ambient temperature is above 41 °F (5 °C).

21. Start the engine, and let it idle for 5 minutes.

22. Turn the A/C on, and set it 72 °F (22 °C), then let the engine idle for 1 minute.

23. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P15A4 (81) indicated?

YES -

Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the BCM module and the A/C compressor driver, then go to step 1.

NO -

Go to step 24.

24. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P15A4 (81) in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the screen indicate PASSED?

YES -

Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 23, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�

NO -

If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the BCM module and the A/C compressor driver, then go to step 1. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 20.
