DTC Troubleshooting: P1586 (23)
DTC P1586 (23):
Battery Current Sensor Signal Malfunction
NOTE: Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data, and review the general troubleshooting information Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Are any DTCs except DTC P1586 (23) and P0A7F (78) indicated?
YES -
Go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�
NO -
Go to step 3.
3. Test-drive the vehicle using wide open throttle for at least 2 seconds, then decelerate with light braking.
4. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1586 (23) in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the screen indicate FAILED?
YES -
Go to step 5.
NO -
If the screen indicates PASSED, intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the battery current sensor and the BCM module. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 3.
5. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
6. Turn the battery module switch OFF High Voltage Safety.
7. Remove the IPU lid IPU Lid Removal/Installation.
8. Check the connection at the junction board 12P connector.
Is the connection OK?
YES -
Go to step 9.
NO -
Repair the connection, then go to step 15.
9. Disconnect BCM module connector A (40P).
10. Check for continuity between body ground and BCM module connector terminals A16 and A36 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 11.
NO -
Go to step 13.
11. Disconnect the junction board 12P connector.
12. Check for continuity between body ground and BCM module connector terminals A16 and A36 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Repair short in the wire between the BCM module(A16, A36) and the junction board 12P connector, then go to step 15.
NO -
Replace the battery module Service and Repair, then go to step 15.
13. Disconnect the junction board 12P connector.
14. Check for continuity between these terminals:
- Junction board 12P connector terminal No. 3 and BCM module connector terminal A16.
- Junction board 12P connector terminal No. 4 and BCM module connector terminal A36.
Is there continuity?
YES -
Go to step 22.
NO -
Repair open in the wire between the BCM module (A16, A36) and the junction board 12P connector, then go to step 15.
15. Reconnect all connectors.
16. Reinstall the IPU lid IPU Lid Removal/Installation, then turn the battery module switch ON High Voltage Safety.
17. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
18. Clear the DTC with the HDS Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
19. Test-drive the vehicle using wide open throttle for at least 2 seconds, then decelerate with light braking.
20. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P1586 (23) indicated?
YES -
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the battery current sensor and the BCM module, then go to step 1.
NO -
Go to step 21.
21. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1586 (23) in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the screen indicate PASSED?
YES -
Troubleshooting is complete. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 20, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�
NO -
If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the battery current sensor and the BCM module, then go to step 1. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 19.
22. Reconnect all connectors.
23. Reinstall the IPU lid IPU Lid Removal/Installation, then turn the battery module switch ON High Voltage Safety.
24. Update the BCM module if it does not have the latest software Testing and Inspection, or substitute a known-good BCM module Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.
25. Test-drive the vehicle using wide open throttle for at least 2 seconds, then decelerate with light braking.
26. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P1586 (23) indicated?
YES -
Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the battery current sensor and the BCM module. If the BCM module was updated, substitute a known-good BCM module Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, then go to step 25. If the BCM module was substituted, go to step 1.
NO -
Go to step 27.
27. Monitor the OBD STATUS for DTC P1586 (23) in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.
Does the screen indicate PASSED?
YES -
If the BCM module was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the BCM module was substituted, replace the original BCM module Service and Repair. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 26, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�
NO -
If the screen indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals at the battery current sensor and the BCM module. If the BCM module was updated, substitute a known-good BCM module Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, then go to step 25. If the BCM module was substituted, go to step 1. If the screen indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 25.
