Advanced Diagnostics - DTC P1448 (63): Intelligent Power Unit (IPU) Module Fan ProblemGeneral Description
To manage the temperature of the motor power inverter (MPI) module, the DC-DC converter, the A/C compressor driver, and the battery module temperature, the integrated motor assist (IMA) system is equipped with an intelligent power unit (IPU) module fan. When a malfunction occurs in the IPU module fan, the motor assist is unable to regenerate and the IMA system is shut down because the module temperature increases. A malfunction in the IPU module fan is detected to avoid problems caused by overheating. If the IPU module fan is functioning normally, when the battery condition monitor (BCM) module operates the IPU module fan, it should operate within a specified speed range. The BCM module compares the actual IPU module fan speed to the IPU module fan duty cycle, and if the actual speed does not reach the specified value, the BCM module detects a malfunction and stores a DTC.

Enable Conditions
Malfunction Threshold
The actual IPU module fan speed is 1,515 rpm or less for at least 30 seconds.
Driving Pattern
1. Reset the BCM module. (Disconnect the 12 V battery terminal once and reconnect it.)
2. Start the engine, and hold the engine speed to between 3,500 - 4,000 rpm in P or N.
3. Visually confirm that the IPU module fan is running.
- If you have difficulty duplicating the DTC, retest after turning off electrical components such as the audio system and A/C, and try a different gear position.
Diagnosis Details
Conditions for setting the DTC
When a malfunction is detected, the MIL comes on and a Pending DTC, a Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data are stored in the PCM and the BCM module memory.
Conditions for clearing the DTC
The MIL is cleared if the malfunction does not return in three consecutive trips in which the diagnostic runs. The MIL, the Pending DTC, the Confirmed DTC, and the freeze data can be cleared with the scan tool Clear command or by disconnecting the battery.
