DTC Troubleshooting: P0780 (100)

DTC P0780:

Problem in Hydraulic Control System

NOTE:

- Before you troubleshoot, record all freeze data and any on-board snapshot with the HDS, and review General Troubleshooting Information How To Troubleshoot The CVT System.
- This code is stored whenever DTCs P1898 and P1899 are detected.

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

2. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

NOTE: P0780 means DTC P1898 and/or P1899 has been stored.

Is DTC P1898 and/or P1899 indicated?

YES -

Go to the DTC P1898 and/or P1899 troubleshooting.�

NO -

Go to step 3.

3. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software PCM Update, or substitute a known-good PCM Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview.

4. Start the engine, and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches 176 °F (80 °C).

5. Shift the shift lever to D while pressing the brake pedal, and wait for 5 seconds.

6. Accelerate from a stop until the vehicle speed reaches 40-50 mph (65-80 km/h), and test-drive the vehicle on a flat road for at least 15 seconds. Do not release the accelerator during the test-drive.

7. Slow down to a stop. After stopping, keep pressing the brake pedal for 5 seconds.

8. Check for Pending or Confirmed DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P0780 indicated?

YES -

Check for poor connections or loose terminals between the CVT drive pulley pressure control solenoid valve, the CVT driven pulley pressure control solenoid valve, and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, then go to step 4. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1.

NO -

Go to step 9.

9. Monitor the OBD STATUS for P0780 in the DTCs MENU with the HDS.

Does the HDS indicate PASSED?

YES -

If the PCM was updated, troubleshooting is complete. If the PCM was substituted, replace the original PCM Service and Repair. If any other Pending or Confirmed DTCs were indicated in step 8, go to the indicated DTC's troubleshooting.�

NO -

If the HDS indicates FAILED, check for poor connections or loose terminals between the CVT drive pulley pressure control solenoid valve, the CVT driven pulley pressure control solenoid valve, and the PCM. If the PCM was updated, substitute a known-good PCM Initial Inspection and Diagnostic Overview, then go to step 4. If the PCM was substituted, go to step 1. If the HDS indicates NOT COMPLETED, go to step 4.
