Manual Transmission Removal

Special Tools Required

- Engine Support Hanger, A and Reds AAR-T1256
- 2008 V6 Attachment Arm SIL02C000033
- Subframe Adapter VSB02C000016
- Engine Hanger Balance Bar VSB02C000019
*: Available through the Honda Tool and Equipment Program 888-424-6857

NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.

1. Remove the hood support struts from both sides of the engine hood. Secure the hood (A) in a vertical position, then reinstall the support strut as shown.

NOTE: Do not attempt to close the hood with the support strut in the vertical position; it will damage the support strut and the hood.






2. Remove the engine cover (A).






3. Remove the front grille cover (A) Front Grille Cover Replacement (2-Door).






4. Remove the clip (A), then remove the splash separator (B).





5. Do the battery removal procedure Removal and Replacement.

6. Remove the air cleaner assembly Service and Repair.

7. Remove the battery base bolts (A), loosen the two bolts (B), remove the cable clamps (C), then remove the battery base (D) with the intake air duct (E).






8. Remove the nut (A) and the clamp (B), then move the under-hood fuse/relay box (C) out of the way.






9. Remove the vacuum hose from the clamp (A) and the nuts (B), then remove the strut brace (C).






10. Disconnect the back-up light switch connector (A), the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (B), and the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (C), then remove the harness clips (D).






11. Disconnect the reverse lockout solenoid connector (A), remove the harness mounting bolt (B) and the harness clamps (C), then remove the harness (D).






12. Remove the starter cable nut (A) and the harness clamp (B), disconnect the starter cable (C), and disconnect the S terminal connector (D).






13. Remove the starter (A) and the vacuum hose bracket (B).






14. Remove the harness bracket mounting bolt (A) and the harness bracket (B).






15. Remove the lock pins (A), the shift cable bracket bolts (B), and the shift cable bracket (C), then disconnect the shift cables (D) from the select lever (E) and the change lever (F). Carefully remove both cables and the bracket together to avoid bending the cables.






16. Remove the slave cylinder mounting bolts (A) and the bracket mounting nut (B), then carefully move the slave cylinder (C) out of the way to avoid bending the clutch line.

NOTE: Do not press the clutch pedal after the slave cylinder has been removed.






17. Remove the connector bracket from the front cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole to attach the engine hanger balance bar front arm.






18. Remove the harness clamp bracket from the rear cylinder head; use the bracket bolt hole to attach the attachment arm.






19. Lift and support the engine with the engine support hanger (AAR-T1256) and the engine hanger balance bar (VSB02C000019). Attach the front arm (A) to the front cylinder head with several spacers (B) and the bolt (10 x 1.25 mm) (C). Attach the attachment arm (SIL02C000033) to the rear cylinder head with the bolt (8 x 1.25mm) (D), then attach the rear arm (E) to the attachment arm.






20. Remove the front engine mount stop nuts (A), the front engine mount stop (B), the vacuum hose bracket (C), and the harness bracket (D), then remove the front engine mount bolt (E), and disconnect the vacuum hose (F).






21. Remove the power steering line holder mounting bolt (A) and the power steering hose clamp (B).






22. Remove the two heat shield bolts (A), the heat shield (B), and the power steering gearbox mounting bracket bolts (C), then remove the power steering gearbox mounting bracket (D).






23. Remove the rear engine mount bolts (A).






24. Remove the power steering gearbox stiffener bolts (A) and the power steering stiffener plates (B).






25. Remove the upper transmission mount bracket bolts (A).

NOTE: Do not remove the TORX bolt (B) from the upper transmission mount. If the TORX bolt is removed, the upper transmission mount must be replaced as an assembly.






26. Remove the three upper transmission mount bracket bolts (A), the upper transmission mount bracket (B), the ground cable mounting bolt (C), and the ground cable (D).






27. Remove the upper transmission mount bolts (A).





28. Raise the vehicle on a lift, and make sure it is securely supported.

29. Remove the front wheels.

30. Remove the front splash shield Front Splash Shield Replacement.





31. Drain the MTF. Reinstall the drain plug with a new sealing washer Service and Repair.

32. Remove the damper fork Front Damper/Spring Removal/Installation.

33. Separate the knuckle ball joint from the lower arm Front Lower Arm Removal/Installation.

34. Remove exhaust pipe A and the gaskets (B).






35. Remove the subframe mid mount bolts (A) and the subframe mid mount (B) from both sides.






36. Remove the lower transmission mount mounting nuts (A).






37. Remove the power steering line holder bolt (A) and the power steering line from the clamp (B).






38. Attach the subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) to the front subframe and hang the belt of the subframe adapter over the front of the subframe, then secure the belt with its stop.





39. Raise the jack and line up the slots in the subframe adapter arms with the bolt holes on the jack base, then securely attach them with four bolts.

40. Remove the four front stiffeners bolts (A), the front stiffener (B), the four rear stiffener bolts (C), and the rear stiffeners (D), then remove the front subframe (E).






41. Support the transmission with a transmission jack.

42. Remove the front engine mount bracket bolts (A) and the front engine mount bracket (B).






43. Remove the lower transmission mount bolts (A) and the lower transmission mount (B).






44. Pry the left driveshaft inboard joint (A) from the differential using a prybar.

NOTE:

- Do not pull on the driveshaft, or the inboard joint may come apart. Pull the inboard joint straight out to avoid damaging the oil seal.
- Be careful not to damage the oil seal or the end of the inboard joint with the prybar.





45. Drive the inboard joint (A) of the right driveshaft off of the intermediate shaft using a prybar and a hammer.

NOTE:

- Do not pull on the driveshaft, or the inboard joint may come apart.
- Be careful not to damage the end of the inboard joint with the prybar.





46. Remove the intermediate shaft Intermediate Shaft Removal.

47. Remove the clutch cover (A) and the harness cover (B).






48. Remove the lower transmission mounting bolts.

49. Pull the transmission away from the engine until the transmission mainshaft clears the clutch pressure plate.

50. Slowly lower the transmission about 150 mm (6 in). Check once again that all hoses and harnesses are disconnected and free from the transmission, then lower it completely.
