Flares while driving

Diagnostic Procedure:

1. Intermediate housing assembly worn or damaged

2. Pulley pressure feed pipe damaged or out of round

3. Forward clutch defective

4. Reverse brake defective

5. Reverse brake piston stuck, worn or damaged

6. Start clutch defective

7. Start clutch end-plate clearance incorrect

8. Start clutch feed pipe damaged or out of round

9. Low CVTF level

10. ATF strainer or ATF filter clogged

11. CVTF deteriorated

12. Valve body assembly defective

13. CVT driven pulley pressure control valve defective

14. CVT drive pulley pressure control valve defective

15. CVT start clutch pressure control valve defective

16. Manual valve body defective

17. Manual valve lines worn or damaged

18. Solenoid valve defective

19. Solenoid harness worn or damaged

20. CVT input shaft (drive pulley) and output shaft (driven pulley) speed sensors defective

21. CVT speed sensor and CVT speed sensor (secondary) defective ('06 model)

22. CVT speed sensor defective ('07-09 model)

23. PCM defective

Also check for:

- Check the drive and driven pulley pressure, and lubrication pressure. If the pressure is low or there is no pressure, check the ATF pump, the ATF pump chain, and the ATF pump sprocket.
- Check the forward clutch pressure.
- Inspect the clutch piston, the clutch piston check valve, and the O-rings. Check the spring retainer for wear and damage. Inspect the clearance between the clutch end-plate and the top disc. If the clearance is out of tolerance, inspect the clutch discs and plates for wear and damage. If the discs and plates are worn or damaged, replace them as a set. If they are OK, adjust the clearance with the clutch end-plate.
- Check the reverse brake pressure.
- Inspect the reverse brake piston and the O-rings. Check the spring retainer for wear and damage. Inspect the clearance between the reverse brake end-plate and the top disc. If the clearance is out of tolerance, inspect the reverse brake discs and plates for wear and damage. If the discs and plates are worn or damaged, replace them as a set. If they are OK, adjust the clearance with the reverse brake end-plate.
- Check for a stored DTC, and check for a loose solenoid harness connector.
