Shift Cable: Service and Repair




A/T Shift Cable Replacement

1. Raise the vehicle on a lift, or apply parking brake, block both rear wheels, and raise the front of the vehicle. Make sure it is securely supported.

2. Remove the center console Center Console Removal/Installation

3. Shift the shift lever to R.

4. Remove the nut securing the shift cable end.






5. Unlock the retainer lock (A).






6. Rotate the socket holder retainer (A) counterclockwise (B) until it stops, and push the retainer lock (C) into the socket holder retainer to lock the retainer.






7. Push the socket holder retainer (A) against the socket holder bracket (B), then slide it to remove the shift cable (C) from the socket holder bracket.

9. Remove the air cleaner assembly. Service and Repair

10. Remove the splash shield.

11. Remove the 6 x 1.0 mm bolt securing the resonator bracket under the battery base bracket, and remove the battery base and the battery base bracket in the engine compartment.






12. Remove the nuts securing the shift cable bracket (A).

13. Remove the spring clip (B) and the control pin (C), then separate the shift cable end (D) from the selector control lever (E).

14. Remove the heat shield under the shift cable grommet.






15. Remove the nut securing the shift cable bracket (A).

16. Remove the shift cable grommet (B), and pull out the shift cable (C).

17. Insert a new shift cable through the grommet hole (D), and install the grommet in its hole. Do not bend the shift cable excessively.

18. Secure the shift cable bracket with the nut.

19. Install the heat shield.

20. Make sure that the transmission is in R at the selector control lever.






21. Apply molybdenum grease to the hole in the bushing (A) in the shift cable end (B).

22. Attach the shift cable end to the selector control lever (C), then insert the control pin (D) into the selector control lever hole through the shift cable end, and secure the control pin with the spring clip (E).

23. Secure the shift cable bracket (F) with the nuts.

24. Install the shift cable on the shift cable end, and adjust the shift cable. Adjustments

25. Install the battery base bracket and the battery base, and secure the resonator bracket under the battery base bracket with the bolt from under the vehicle.

26. Install the splash shield.

27. Install the air cleaner assembly. Service and Repair

28. Do the battery installation procedure. Removal and Replacement
