Automatic Transmission Installation
Special Tools Required
- Subframe alignment pin 070AG-SJAA10S
- 2008 V6 Attachment arm SIL02C000033
- Engine support hanger, A and Reds AAR-T1256
- Engine hanger balancer bar VSB02C000019
- Front subframe adapter VSB02C000016
These special tools are available through the Honda Tool and Equipment Program.
NOTE: Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surfaces.
1. Clean the ATF cooler. ATF Cooler Cleaning
2. Install the clamp bracket.
3. Install the torque converter (A) on the mainshaft (B) with a new O-ring (C).
4. Install the 14 mm dowel pin (D) and the 10 mm dowel pin (E) in the torque converter housing.
5. Install the transmission lower mount with new bolts.
6. Place the transmission on a jack, and raise it to engine level.
7. Attach the transmission to the engine, and install the lower transmission housing mounting bolts.
8. Install the rear transmission housing mounting bolts.
9. Install the front transmission housing mounting bolt (A) using a socket 22 mm long and a torque wrench.
10. Install the front transmission housing mounting bolt (B).
11. Install the front mount bracket (A) with new bolts.
12. Install the sensor harness clamp bracket (B) on the mount bracket.
13. Install the upper transmission housing mounting bolts.
14. Install the transmission upper mount and the mount bracket with new bolts (A) (B) and nut (C).
15. Install a new set ring (A) on the intermediate shaft (B).
16. Plug the driveshaft hole to prevent dirt and solvent from entering the transmission. Clean the areas where the intermediate shaft contacts the transmission (differential) with solvent, and dry with compressed air. Apply ATF to the intermediate shaft splines, put the heat shield (C) on the intermediate shaft, then install the intermediate shaft; be sure not to allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the transmission.
17. Install the heat shield with the mounting bolts.
18. Install the exhaust manifold bracket (D).
19. Install a new set ring (A) on the left driveshaft (B).
20. Clean the areas where the left driveshaft contacts the transmission (differential) with solvent, and dry with compressed air. Then install the left driveshaft; be sure not to allow dust or other foreign particles to enter the transmission. Turn the steering knuckle fully outward, and slide the driveshaft into the differential until you feel its set ring fully engage the side gear.
21. Apply right driveshaft inboard-joint splines with the recommended grease.
22. Slide the right driveshaft over the intermediate shaft splines until you feel the driveshaft fully engage the intermediate shaft set ring.
23. Connect the crankshaft position (CKP) sensor connector (A), and install the CKP sensor cover (B) and the sensor harness clamp bracket (C).
24. Support the front subframe (A) with the front subframe adapter (VSB02C000016) and a jack.
25. Position the steering gearbox washers (A) on the front subframe (B), and lift the subframe up to body.
26. Loosely install new subframe mounting bolts (C), new rear stiffener mounting bolts (D), the front stiffener mounting bolts (E), and the front stiffeners (F) and the rear stiffeners (G).
27. Loosely tighten the right rear subframe mounting bolt (A); insert the subframe alignment pin (070AG-SJAA10S) through the positioning slot (B) on the rear stiffener, through the positioning hole (C) on the subframe, and into the positioning hole (D) on the body, then tighten the subframe mounting bolt.
28. Loosely tighten the left rear subframe mounting bolt in the same manner in step 27.
29. Loosely tighten the right and left front subframe mounting bolts.
30. Loosen the right rear mounting bolt, then tighten the bolt to the specified torque with the guide pin in the positioning hole.
31. Tighten the left rear mounting bolt to the specified torque with the guide pin in the positioning hole.
32. Tighten the right and left front mounting bolts to the specified torque.
33. Check that the positioning holes and slot are aligned using the subframe alignment pin
34. Tighten the rear and front stiffener mounting bolts to the specified torque.
35. Remove the jack and the front subframe adapter.
36. Install both mid-stiffener with new bolts.
37. Install the transmission lower mount nuts.
38. Attach the torque converter to the drive plate with eight bolts (A). Rotate the crankshaft pulley as necessary to tighten the bolts to 1/2 of the specified torque, then to the final torque, in a crisscross pattern. After tightening the last bolt, check that the crankshaft rotates freely.
39. Install the torque converter cover (B).
40. Secure the rear mount base bracket with new bolts: 10 x 1.25 mm (A) (three bolts) and 12 x 1.25 mm (B).
41. Align the bolt holes in the front subframe and the gearbox mounting washers with the steering gearbox, and secure the steering gearbox with the mounting bolts (A), the bolts (B), and the stiffeners (C).
42. Secure the power steering fluid line clamp (D) with the bolt.
43. Connect the engine mount control system connector (E).
44. Position the steering gearbox bracket over the gearbox, and secure the gearbox with the bolts (A).
45. Secure the steering gearbox heat shield (B) and the power steering fluid line clamp (C) with the bolts. Install the power steering fluid hose (D) at the dot (E) in its clamp (F).
46. Secure the power steering fluid line (A) with the clamp (B).
47. Connect the engine mount control system connector at the front of the subframe.
48. Connect the ATF cooler hose (A) to the ATF cooler line (B), and secure the hose with its clip (C). Service and Repair
49. Install the damper forks (A) with the damper pinch bolts, and install the ball joints (B) to each lower arms (C).
50. Install new damper fork bolts (D) and new self-locking nuts (E), and secure the ball joints with the castle nuts (F) and new cotter pins (G).
51. Install exhaust pipe A with new self-locking nuts and new gaskets (B) (C).
52. Install a new front mount bolt, and install the front mount stop (A) with new nuts.
53. Remove the engine support hanger and the engine hanger balancer bar.
54. Install the connector bracket to the front cylinder head.
55. Install the harness clamp bracket to the rear cylinder head.
56. Connect the ATF cooler hoses (A) to the ATF cooler lines (B), and secure the hoses with the clips (C). Service and Repair
57. Connect the 2nd clutch transmission fluid pressure switch connector.
58. Secure the harness clamp bracket with the bolt.
59. Install the harness cover (A) on its bracket (B), and secure it with the mounting bolt.
60. Connect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve C connector (C).
61. Install the harness clamp bracket (D), and install the harness clamp (E) on the bracket.
62. Connect the 3rd clutch transmission fluid pressure switch connector (A), the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (B), and the ATF temperature sensor connector (C). Install the harness clamp (D) on its bracket.
63. Connect the transmission range switch connector (A) and the input shaft (mainshaft) speed sensor connector (B).
64. Install the harness cover (A) on its bracket (B), and secure it with the bolt.
65. Connect the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve A connector (C), the A/T clutch pressure control solenoid valve B connector (D), the 4th clutch transmission fluid pressure switch connector (E), and the shift solenoid wire harness connector (F).
66. Apply molybdenum grease to the hole in the bushing (A) in the shift cable end (B).
67. Attach the shift cable end to the selector control lever (C), then insert the control pin (D) into the selector control lever hole through the shift cable end, and secure the control pin with the spring clip (E).
68. Secure the shift cable bracket (F) with the nuts.
69. Install the starter (A) and a new gasket (B).
70. Install the harness clamp bracket (A), and install the harness clamp (B) on its bracket.
71. Install the starter cables (C).
72. Install the transmission ground terminal (D), and install the water hose (E) in its clamp (F).
73. Install the strut brace.
74. Refill the transmission with ATF. ATF Replacement
75. Install the battery base bracket and the battery base, and secure the resonator bracket under the battery base bracket with the bolt from under the vehicle.
76. Install the air cleaner assembly. Service and Repair
77. Do the battery installation procedure. Removal and Replacement
78. Install the upper grille cover.
79. Reinstall the support strut brackets with the bolts to proper locations on both sides of the hood.
80. Install the splash shield.
81. Install the wheels.
82. Set the parking brake. Start the engine, and shift the transmission through all positions three times. Check the shift lever operation, A/T gear position indicator operation, and shift cable adjustment.
83. Check and adjust the front wheel alignment. Service and Repair
84. Start the engine in P or N, and warm it up to normal operating temperature (the radiator fan comes on).
85. Turn off the engine, and check the ATF level. ATF Level Check
86. Do the road test. A/T Road Test
