Tightening Torques and Sequences

Cylinder Head Torque and Sequence
Tighten the cylinder head bolts in sequence to 29 N-m (3.0 kgf-m, 22 lbf-ft).
After torquing, tighten all cylinder head bolts in two steps (90 ° per step) using the sequence shown. If you are using a new cylinder head bolt, tighten the bolt an extra 90 °.

Head Bolt Reuse/Replace
Measure the diameter of each cylinder head bolt at point A and point B.
If either diameter is less than 10.6 mm (0.42 in.), replace the cylinder head bolt.

Intake Manifold Torque and Sequence
Tighten the injector base mounting bolts/nuts in a crisscross pattern in three steps, beginning with the inner nuts.

Intake manifold. Tighten the bolts and nuts sequentially in three steps.

Upper cover (A). Tighten the bolts and nuts sequentially in three steps.

Main Bearing Cap Torque and Sequence
Tighten the bearing cap bolts, and then the bearing cap side bolts to the specified torque in the sequence as shown. Repeat the torque sequence again to ensure the bolts are properly torqued.

Rod Bearing Cap Torque
Tighten the bolts to 20 N-m (2.0 kgf-m, 14 lbf-ft).
Mark the connecting rod and the bolt head as shown.
Tighten the bolt until the mark on the bolt head lines up with the mark on the connecting rod (turn the bolt 90 °).

Connecting Rod Bolt Reuse/Replace
Measure the diameter of each connecting rod bolt at point A and point B.
Calculate the difference in diameter between point A and point B.
If the difference in diameter is out of specification, replace the connecting rod bolt.

Crankshaft Pulley Torque
Crankshaft pulley, tighten the bolt to 64 N-m (6.5 kgf-m, 47 lbf-ft).
Then tighten the bolt an additional 60 °.

Flexplate Torque and Sequence
Torque the flexplate mounting bolts in a crisscross pattern in several steps.

Flywheel Torque and Sequence
Torque the flywheel mounting bolts in a crisscross pattern in several steps.
