Thermostat ReplacementRemoval
1. Drain the engine coolant.
2. Remove the air cleaner assembly.
3. Disconnect the upper radiator hose (A), the lower radiator hose (B), the heater hoses (C), and the water bypass hose (D).
4. Remove the water passage (A), then remove the thermostat (B).
Installation
1. Remove old liquid gasket from the water passage, thermostat housing mating surfaces, bolts, and bolt holes.
2. Apply a 1.5 mm wide bead of the liquid gasket on the water passage, P/N 08717-0004, 08718-0001, 08718-0003, or 08718-0009, along the broken lines (A). Install the component within 5 minutes of applying the liquid gasket.
NOTE:
^ If you apply liquid gasket P/N 08718-0012, the component must be installed with 4 minutes.
^ If too much time has passed after applying the liquid gasket, remove the old liquid gasket and residue, then reapply new liquid gasket.
3. Install the rubber seal (A) on the thermostat (B), then install the thermostat with the pin (C) up.
4. Install the water passage (D).
NOTE: After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with coolant.
5. Install the upper radiator hose (A), the lower radiator hose (B), the heater hoses (C), and the water bypass hose (D).
6. Install the air cleaner assembly.
7. Refill the radiator with engine coolant, and bleed air from the cooling system with the heater valve open.
