Low Oil Psi Indicator doesn't come on, Ignition Switch in ON (II)

Symptom Troubleshooting

Low oil pressure indicator does not come on with the ignition switch in ON (II)

J35Z2 engine

1. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).
2. Do the gauge control module self-diagnostic function.

Is the gauge control module OK?

YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Replace the gauge control module.

3. Completely opens the throttle.
4. Check the MAP SENSOR and BARO SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

MAP SENSOR-BARO SENSOR = "A"

Is "A" 19.9 kPa (0.20 kgf/cm2, 2.89 psi) or less?

YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Replace the powertrain control module (PCM).

5. Check the ROCKER ARM OIL PRESSURE SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the Honda Diagnostic System (HDS).

Is it the 19.0 kPa (0.19 kgf/cm2, 2.76 psi) or less?

YES - Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM.

NO - Replace rocker arm oil pressure sensor.

Special Tools Required
^ Pressure gauge adapter 07NAJ-PO7010A
^ Oil pressure hose 07ZAJ-S5AA200
^ A/T pressure hose 07406-0020201
^ A/T low pressure gauge w/panel 07406-0070301
^ A/T pressure hose, 2,210 mm 07MAJ-PY4011A
^ A/T pressure hose adapter 07MAJ-PY40120

Low oil pressure indicator stays on

J35Z2 engine

1. Check the engine oil level.

Is the engine oil level normal?

YES - Go to step 2.

NO - Add engine oil to the normal level, then recheck.

2. Remove the rocker arm oil pressure sensor (A), then install the oil pressure hose, the A/T pressure hose, the A17 low pressure gauge w/panel, the A/T pressure hose, 2,210 mm and the A/T pressure hose adapter as shown, then install the rocker arm oil pressure sensor in the pressure gauge adapter (B).

3. Warm up the engine.
4. At the idling of an engine, check the oil pressure gauge valve.

70 kPa (0.7 kgf/cm2, 10 psi) or less?

YES - Go to step 5.

NO - Check the following items:

^ Blocking of oil filter.
^ Blocking of oil screen.
^ Check the oil pump.

5. Check the ROCKER ARM OIL PRESSURE SENSOR in the DATA LIST with the HDS.

Is the 19.0 kPa (0.19 kgf/cm2, 2.76 psi) or less?

YES - Go to step 10.

NO - Go to step 6.

6. Turn the ignition switch to LOCK (0).
7. Jump the SCS line with the HDS.
8. Disconnect the PCM connector C (49P).
9. Turn the ignition switch to ON (II).

Does the low oil pressure indicator go off?

YES - Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM.

NO - Replace the gauge control module.

10. Check the MAP SENSOR and BARO SENSOR in the DATA LIST with HDS.

BARO SENSOR-MAP SENSOR = "A"

Is "A" 19.9 kPa (0.20 kgf/cm2, 2.89 psi) or less?

YES - Replace rocker arm oil pressure sensor.

NO - Replace the PCM.
