Starter Removal and Installation

Removal

1. Make sure you have the anti-theft codes for the radio, and the navigation system, then write down the customer's audio presets. Make sure the ignition switch is OFF.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery first, then disconnect the positive cable.
3. Remove the battery.




4. Remove the tower radiator hose (A) from its clamp, and remove the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) dipstick (B).




5. Remove the harness clamp (A).
6. Disconnect the starter cable (B) from the B terminal, then disconnect the BLK/WHT wire (C) from the S terminal.
7. Remove the two bolts holding the starter, then remove the starter and gasket (D).

Installation




1. Install the starter (A) using a new gasket (B), then install the harness clamp (C), and connect the B terminal (D) and BLK/WHT wire (E). Make sure the crimped side of the B terminal is facing out.




2. Install the automatic transmission fluid (ATF) dipstick (A), then install the lower radiator hose (B) to its cramp.
3. Install the battery.
4. Connect the positive cable to the battery first, and then connect the negative cable.
5. Turn the IMA battery module switch OFF.
6. Start the engine to make sure the 12 V starter works properly.
7. Turn the IMA battery module switch ON.
8. Reset the MCM.
9. Enter the anti-theft codes for the radio and the navigation system, then enter the customer's audio presets.
10. Do the power window control unit reset procedure.
11. Set the clock.
12. If the IMA battery level gauge (BAT) displays no segments, start the engine, and hold it between 3,500 rpm and 4,000 rpm without load (in Park or neutral) until the BAT displays at least three segments.
