DTC 27-21: Steering Angle Sensor Stuck Neutral PositionDTC 27-22: Steering Angle Sensor Stuck Offset Position
1. Turn the steering wheel left and right. Check the STEERING ANGLE in the DATA LIST while the HDS while moving the steering wheel.
Do change the indicated values?
YES - Go to step 2.
NO - Go to step 5.
2. Clear the DTC with the HDS.
3. Turn the steering wheel left and right.
4. Check for DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC 27-21, or 27-22 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit. Refer to intermittent failure.
5. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
6. Disconnect the steering angle sensor 5P connector.
7. Disconnect the VSA modulator-control unit 37P connector.
8. Check for continuity between body ground and steering angle sensor 5P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 4 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
NO - Go to step 9.
9. Check for continuity between the VSA modulator-control unit 37P connector terminal and the steering angle sensor 5P connector terminal individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 10.
NO - Repair open in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
10. Check for continuity between steering angle sensor 5P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 4.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
NO - Go to step 11.
11. Check for continuity between steering angle sensor 5P connector terminals No. 5 and No. 2, No. 5 and No. 4 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
NO - Go to step 12.
12. Check for continuity between steering angle sensor 5P connector terminals No. 1 and No. 2, No. 1 and No. 4 individually.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
NO - Go to step 13.
13. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
14. Measure voltage between body ground and steering angle sensor 5P connector terminals No. 2 and No. 4 individually.
Is there 0.1 V or more?
YES - Repair short to power in the wire between the steering angle sensor and the VSA modulator-control unit.
NO - Replace the steering angle sensor.
