Fuel Injector: Service and Repair

Injector Replacement

1. Relieve the fuel pressure: 2004-2005 models.




2. Remove the fuel rail cover (A), then disconnect the connectors from the fuel injectors (B).
3. Disconnect the vacuum hose and fuel return hose from the fuel pressure regulator (C). Place a rag or shop towel over the hoses before disconnecting them.
4. Remove the retainer nuts (D).
5. 2000-2004 models. Disconnect the PCV valve (E).
6. 2005 model: Disconnect the PCV hose (F).
7. Disconnect the fuel rail.
8. Remove the fuel injectors from the cylinder head (G).




9. Slide new cushion rings (A) onto the fuel injectors (B).
10. Coat new O-rings (C) with clean engine oil, and put them on the fuel injectors.
11. Insert the fuel injectors into the fuel rail (D).
12. Coat new seal rings (E) with clean engine oil, and press them into the cylinder head.
13. Install the fuel injectors into the cylinder head.
14. Install and tighten the retainer nuts.
15. Connect the fuel hose to the fuel rail with new washers.
16. Connect the vacuum hoses and fuel return hose to the fuel pressure regulator.
17. 2005 model: Connect the PCV tube.
18. 2000-2004 models: Connect the PCV valve.
19. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), but do not operate the starter. After the fuel pump runs for about 2 seconds, the fuel pressure in the fuel line rises. Repeat this two or three times, then check for fuel leakage.
