Without Continuously Variable Transmission
DTC P0722: Problem in Output Shaft (Countershaft) Speed Sensor Circuit (No Signal Input)2004-2005 Model
NOTE:
^ Record all freeze data and review General Troubleshooting Information before you troubleshoot.
^ This code is caused by an electrical circuit problem and cannot be caused by a mechanical problem in the transmission.
1. Check the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor installation.
Is the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor installed properly?
YES - Go to step 2.
NO - Reinstall and rechecks
2. Disconnect output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector.
3. Measure output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor resistance at the sensor connector.
Is there 400 - 600 Ohms?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Replace the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor.
4. Disconnect PCM connector C (22P).
5. Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal C15 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short to ground in the wire between PCM connector terminals C15 and the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor.
NO - Go to step 6.
6. Connect output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (2P).
7. Measure the resistance between PCM connector terminals C14 and C15.
Is there 400 - 600 Ohms?
YES - Check for loose terminal fit, and repair if necessary. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM.
NO - Go to step 8.
8. Disconnect output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector (2P).
9. Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal C15 and output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector terminal No. 2.
Is there continuity?
YES - Go to step 10.
NO - Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal C15 and the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor.
10. Check for continuity between PCM connector terminal C14 and output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor connector terminal No. 1.
Is there continuity?
YES - Check for loose terminal fit, and repair if necessary. Update the PCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good PCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good PCM, replace the original PCM.
NO - Repair open in the wire between PCM connector terminal C14 and the output shaft (countershaft) speed sensor.
