Back-up Light Switch Signal Circuit Troubleshooting

M/T model

1. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

Are the back-up lights on when the shift lever is not in the reverse position?

YES - Inspect the back-up light switch.

NO - Go to step 2.

2. Shift the transmission to reverse.

Do the back-up lights come on?

YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Go to step 4.




3. Measure voltage between ECM connector terminal B10 and body ground.

Is there battery voltage?

YES - The back-up light switch signal is OK.

NO - Repair open in the wire between the ECM (B10) and the back-up light switch.

4. Inspect the No.10 METER (7.5 A) fuse in the under-dash fuse/relay box.

Is the fuse OK?

YES -
- Repair open in the wire between the No.10 METER (7.5 A) fuse and the back-up light switch.
- Inspect the back-up light switch.

NO -
- Repair short in the wire between the No.10 METER (7.5 A) fuse and the back-up light switch.
- Repair short in the wire between the ECM (B10) and the back-up light switch.
- Replace the No.10 METER (7.5 A) fuse.
