Cam Chain Removal
RemovalNOTE: Keep the cam chain away from magnetic fields.
1. Remove the drive belt.
2. Turn the crankshaft pulley so its top dead center (TDC) mark (A) lines up with the pointer (B).
3. Remove the water pump pulley.
4. Remove the cylinder head cover.
5. Remove the crankshaft pulley.
6. Remove the oil pan.
7. Support the engine with a jack and wood block under the cylinder block.
8. Remove the ground cable (A), then remove the upper bracket (B).
9. Remove the chain case (A), then remove the pulse plate (B).
10. Measure the cam chain separation. If the distance is less than the service limit, replace the cam chain and cam chain tensioner.
Standard Distance: 19 mm (0.75 inch)
Service Limit: 15 mm (0.59 inch)
11. Apply engine oil to the sliding surface of the cam chain tensioner (A).
12. Hold the cam chain tensioner with a screwdriver, then remove the bolt (B), and loosen the bolt (C).
13. Remove the cam chain tensioner.
14. Remove the cam chain tensioner rail (A) and cam chain guide (B).
15. Remove the cam chain.
