Valve Cover: Service and Repair
Cylinder Head Cover Removal1. Remove the eight ignition coils.
2. Disconnect the subharness connector (A), then remove the harness holder (B) and breather hose (C).
3. Remove the cylinder head cover.
Cylinder Head Cover Installation
1. Thoroughly clean the head cover gasket and the groove.
2. Install the head cover gasket (A) in the groove of the cylinder head cover (B).
3. Check that the mating surfaces are clean and dry.
4. Apply a 3.0 mm wide bead of the liquid gasket, P/N 08718-0009, on the chain case mating areas (A).
NOTE: Do not install the parts if 5 minutes or more have elapsed since applying liquid gasket. Instead, reapply liquid gasket after removing old residue.
5. Once the cylinder head cover (A) on the cylinder head, slide the cover slightly back and forth to seat the head cover gasket.
6. Inspect the cover washer (B). Replace any washer that is damaged or deteriorated.
7. Tighten the bolts in two or three steps. In the final step tighten all bolts, in sequence, 12 Nm (1.2 kgf-cm, 8.7 ft. lbs.).
8. Install the breather hose (A) and harness holder (B), then connect the sub-harness connector (C).
9. Install the eight ignition coils.
10. After assembly, wait at least 30 minutes before filling the engine with oil.
