DTC P1706: Open in Transmission Range Switch CircuitULEV Model
NOTE:
^ Record all freeze data and review General Troubleshooting Information before you troubleshoot.
^ After troubleshooting, Do the ECM idle learn procedure.
1. Check whether DTC P1705 is indicated.
Does the scan tool or the HDS indicate code P1705?
YES- Perform the troubleshooting for DTC P1705, then go to step 2.
NO- Go to step 5.
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
3. Clear the DTC with the HDS, or reset the TCM memory by removing the No. 9 (10A) fuse in the under-hood fuse/relay box for more than 10 seconds.
4. Recheck for DTC P1706.
Does the scan tool or the HDS indicate code P1706?
YES- Go to step 5.
NO- Intermittent failure, the system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the transmission range switch and TCM..
5. Test the transmission range switch.
Is the switch OK?
YES- Go to step 6.
NO- Replace the transmission range switch.
6. Connect the transmission range switch connector.
7. Check for continuity between TCM connector terminal A23 and body ground, and between A24 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES- Go to step 8.
NO- Repair open in the wire between TCM connector terminal A23 and ground (G101), or between A24 and ground (G101), or repair poor ground (G101).
8. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
9. Shift to the D position.
10. Measure the voltage between TCM connector terminals A15 and A23 or A24.
Is there voltage?
YES- Repair open in the wire between TCM connector terminal A15 and the transmission range switch.
NO- Check the terminal fit at TCM connector terminal A15. If the connection is OK, update the TCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good TCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good TCM, replace the original TCM.
