P1587

DTC P1587 (19): MPI Module Current Signal Circuit Low Input
1. Reset the MCM.
2. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
3. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Is DTC P1587 indicated?
YES-Go to step 4.
NO-Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the MPI module current sensor and the MCM.
4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
5. Turn the battery module switch OFF.
6. Remove the IPU lid.
7. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

8. Measure voltage between MCM connector terminals C2 and C8.
Is there about 2 - 3 V?
YES-Update the MCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good MCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good MCM, replace the original MCM.
NO-Go to step 9.

9. Measure voltage between MCM connector terminals C8 and C14.
Is there more than 4.5 V?
YES-Go to step 10.
NO-Update the MCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good MCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good MCM, replace the original MCM.
10. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
11. Remove the PDU cover.
12. Disconnect the MPI module current sensor 3P connector.
13. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).

14. Measure voltage between MPI module current sensor 3P connector terminals- No. 1 and No. 2.
Is there more than 4.5 V?
YES-Go to step 15.
NO-Repair open in the wire between the MPI module current sensor and the MCM (C14).
15. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
16. Disconnect MCM connector C (17P).

17. Check for continuity between MPI module current sensor 3P connector terminal No. 3 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES-Repair short in the wire between the MPI module current sensor and the MCM (C2).
NO-Go to step 18.

18. Check for continuity between MCM connector terminal C2 and MPI module current sensor 3P connector terminal No. 3.
Is there continuity?
YES-Replace the MPI module current sensor. If sensor replacement does not fix the problem, update the MCM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good MCM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good MCM, replace the original MCM.
NO-Repair open in the wire between the MPI module current sensor and the MCM (C3).
