DTC P1026: Valve Pause System Sticking On

1. Reset the ECM with the HDS.
2. Start the engine, and check the idle.

Is it normal (700 - 800 rpm)?

YES - Go to step 3.

NO - Go to step 12.

3. Start the engine. Hold the engine speed at 3,000 rpm without load (in Park or neutral) until the radiator fan comes on, then let it idle.
4. Check whether the IMA battery charge indicator shows between 4 and 19 segments.
5. Test-drive under these conditions:

- CVT in D position (M/T in 3rd gear)
- Vehicle speed at 50 mph (80 km/h)
- Drive about 5 seconds, then slow down with the throttle completely closed

6. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P1026 indicated?

YES - Go to step 12.

NO - Go to step 7.

7. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
8. Start the engine, and let it idle for 12 minutes.
9. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
10. Start the engine, and let it idle for 12 minutes.
11. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.

Is DTC P1026 indicated?

YES - Go to step 12.

NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time.

12. Remove the cylinder head cover.
13. Check the rocker arm operation.

Are any cylinder pins locked?

YES - Go to step 14.

NO - Go to step 15.

14. Check the rocker arms and the lost motion assembly.

Are they OK?

YES - Go to step 15.

NO - Repair the rocker arm assembly.

15. Check the rocker arm assembly.

Is it OK?

YES - Check the rocker arm operation again.

NO - Replace the rocker arm assembly.
