P0344
DTC P0344: CMP Sensor Intermittent Signal Interruption(2003 AT-PZEV (SULEV) and 2004-2005 models)
NOTE: Information marked with an asterisk (*) applies to 2003 ULEV model.
1. Reset the ECM with the HDS.
2. Start the engine.
3. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0340 (P1362)* and/or P0344 (P1361)* indicated?
YES - Go to step 4.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Check for poor connections or loose terminals at the CMP sensor and at the ECM.
4. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
5. Disconnect the CMP sensor 3P connector.
6. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
7. Measure voltage between CMP sensor 3P connector terminal No.3 and body ground.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 8.
NO - Repair open in the wire between PGM-FI main relay 1 and the CMP sensor.
8. Measure voltage between CMP sensor 3P connector terminal No.1 and body ground.
Is there about 5 V?
YES - Go to step 9.
NO - Go to step 12.
9. Measure voltage between CMP sensor 3P connector terminals No.2 and No.3.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 10.
NO - Repair open in the BRN/YEL wire between the CMP sensor and G101.
10. Substitute a known-good CMP sensor and recheck.
11. Check for Temporary DTCs or DTCs with the HDS.
Is DTC P0340 (P1362)* and/or P0344 (P1361)* indicated?
YES - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.
NO - Replace the original CMP sensor.
12. Measure voltage between ECM connector terminal A26 and body ground.
Is there about 5 V?
YES - Repair open in the wire between the ECM (A26) and CMP sensor.
NO - Go to step 13.
13. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
14. Wait for 1 minute. If the radiator fan is running, wait for 1 minute after it stops.
15. Disconnect ECM connector A (31P).
16. Check for continuity between ECM connector terminal A26 and body ground.
Is there continuity?
YES - Repair short in the wire between the ECM (A26) and the CMP sensor.
NO - Update the ECM if it does not have the latest software, or substitute a known-good ECM, then recheck. If the symptom/indication goes away with a known-good ECM, replace the original ECM.
