DIAGNOSIS

1. Test-drive the vehicle under the same conditions as stated by the customer, and attempt to duplicate the creaking or popping from the driver's A-pillar or the upper-left dash area when accelerating and decelerating.

2. Open the hood, and slide a long 1.5 mm feeler gauge or a similar thickness metal ruler between the left upper bulkhead and the left shock tower:

^ If there is 1.5 mm or more of clearance, refer to:

- S/B 04-055, Ticking, Popping, or Creaking From Driver's A-Pillar (2-door only).

^ If there is an obstruction or less than 1.5 mm of clearance, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Insert a pry bar wrapped with a shop towel between the left upper bulkhead and the left shock tower.

2. Gently pry back and forth to obtain 1.5 mm clearance between the body panels.

3. Test-drive the vehicle while accelerating and decelerating to make sure the creaking or popping is not heard:

^ If you no longer hear the creaking or popping, the repair is complete. Return the vehicle to the customer.

^ If you still hear the creaking or popping, ensure there is 1.5 mm of clearance between the left upper bulkhead and the left shock tower, and refer to:

- S/B 04-057, Creak or Click at Dashboard or A-Pillar
