Cylinder Head RemovalNOTE:
^ Use fender covers to avoid damaging painted surface.
^ To avoid damage, unplug the wiring connectors carefully while holding the connector portion.
^ To avoid damaging cylinder head, wait until the engine coolant temperature drops below 100°F (38°C) before loosening the cylinder head bolts.
^ Mark all wiring and hoses to avoid misconnection. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts. Also, be sure that they do not contact other wiring or hoses, or interfere with other parts.
1. Make sure you have the anti-theft code for the radio, then write down the customer's radio station presets.
2. Disconnect the negative cable from the battery.
3. Loosen the drain plug in the radiator, drain the engine coolant.
4. Remove the throttle cable and cruise control actuator cable.
5. Remove the intake resonator.
6. Remove the air cleaner.
7. Remove the intake manifold.
8. Remove the ground cable, upper radiator hose, lower radiator hose, and heater hose.
9. Remove the wire harness clamp.
10. Remove the bolt securing the connecting pipe, then remove the connecting pipe from the water passage.
11. Remove the adjusting plate mounting bolt, locknut, and mounting nut, then remove the power steering (P/S) pump belt and pump without disconnecting the P/S hoses.
12. Remove the alternator.
13. Remove the A/C hose bracket and P/S hose bracket.
14. Remove the engine wire harness connectors and wire harness clamps.
^ Idle air control (IAC) valve connector
^ Engine coolant temperature (ECT) sensor connector
^ Radiator fan switch connector
^ Crankshaft position (CKP) sensor connector
^ Camshaft position (CMP) (top dead center (TDC)) sensor connector
15. Remove the fuel pressure regulator P2.
16. Remove the cover (A), then remove the exhaust manifold (B).
17. Remove the timing belt.
18. Remove the camshaft pulley (A) and back cover (B).
19. Remove the cylinder head bolts. To prevent warpage, unscrew the bolts in sequence 1/3 turn at a time; repeat the sequence until all of the bolts are loosened.
20. Remove the cylinder head.
