REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Lower the convertible top fully. With a ruler and a measuring tape, measure the distance from the quarter panel molding to the tip of the roof fabric.

^ If the measurement is 2 inches or more, go to step 2.

^ If the measurement is 1-7/8 inches or less, do not continue with this repair procedure. However, inspect the convertible top cover for warpage due to improper storage. If necessary, lay the top cover in the sun to allow the material to relax before reinstalling the cover.

2. Remove the door sill trim and the rear side trim on both sides. Refer to section 20 of the service manual.

3. Raise the convertible top halfway.

4. Using a stubby 3/8" drive ratchet (with a 4" handle), a 6" extension, and a 12 mm crowfoot wrench, loosen the locknut on the lowered position stop.

5. Turn the locknut six turns counterclockwise, then turn the lowered position stop five turns clockwise.

6. Repeat steps 4 and 5 for the other side of the convertible top.

7. Lower the convertible top, and observe the stops as the top comes to rest in the lowered position. The roof side stop should contact the rubber of the adjustable stop with the roof measurement at about 1-3/4 inches.

8. Carefully tighten the locknuts while holding the lowered position stops.

9. Raise and lower the top completely to check its operation.

10. Reinstall all removed interior parts.

11. Install the convertible top cover, then push down on the cover to check the clearance between it and the convertible top. You should feel some give in the cover before you feel the top.
