WARRANTY CLAIM INFORMATION

In warranty:
The normal warranty applies.

Out of warranty:
Any repair performed after warranty expiration may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Service Manager or your Zone Office. You must request consideration, and get a decision, before starting work.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

1. Remove the gauge assembly from the vehicle (see page 23-135 of the service manual).

2. Remove the speedometer from the gauge assembly (four screws).

3. Remove the printed circuit board from the back of the speedometer. Locate the affected connector.

4. Use a small dental pick, or a similar small, pointed tool to bend each terminal toward the center of the hole. Use a magnifying glass to see the terminals.

5. Examine the terminals with a magnifying glass to make sure the ends are not touching. If they are touching, gently bend them back slightly.

6. Use the same tool to bend the outer housings toward the center of the cavity.

7. Use the terminal inspection feeler tool T/N 07XAJ-001000A, to check the fit of the connector. Use the blue pin on the tool to compare the drag of the connector you just repaired to the other connectors. Refer to the August 2000 Service News for background information.

8. Install the printed circuit board on the back of the speedometer.

9. Install the speedometer in the gauge assembly.

10. Install the gauge assembly in the vehicle.

11. Test-drive the vehicle and check the speedometer for proper operation. If the speedometer is still erratic or sticking, replace the speedometer assembly.
