DTC 15-1
DTC 15-1: Faulty OPDS unit1. Make sure nothing is sitting on the front passenger's seat.
2. Initialize the OPDS unit.
3. Erase the DTC memory.
4. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 15-1 indicated?
YES - Go to step 5.
NO - Intermittent failure, system is OK at this time. Go to Troubleshooting Intermittent Failures.
5. Check the No.7 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under- dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES - Go to step 6.
NO - Go to step 13.
6. Disconnect the OPDS unit harness 8P connector from the OPDS unit.
7. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
OPDS Unit Harness 8P Connector (Wire Side Of Female Terminals):
8. Check for voltage between the No. 4 terminal of the OPDS unit harness 8P connector and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Go to step 28.
NO - Go to step 9.
9. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
10. Disconnect the right side wire harness 16P connector (A) from the dashboard wire harness A 16P connector (B).
11. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
Dashboard Wire Harness 16P Connector (Wire Side Of Female Terminals):
12. Check for voltage between the No.9 terminal of the dashboard wire harness A 16P connector and body ground. There should be battery voltage.
Is there battery voltage?
YES - Open in the right side wire harness or OPDS unit harness: If the OPDS unit harness is OK, replace the SRS floor harness.
NO - Open in the dashboard wire harness A: Replace the dashboard wire harness A.
13. Replace the No.7 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under- dash fuse/relay box.
14. Turn the ignition switch ON (II) for thirty seconds, then turn it OFF.
15. Check the No.7 (7.5 A) fuse in driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES - END
NO - Go to step 16.
16. Replace the No.7 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under- dash fuse/relay box.
17. Disconnect the dashboard wire harness A 18P connector (A) from the driver's under-dash fuse! relay box (B).
18. Turn the ignition switch ON (II) for thirty seconds, then turn it off.
19. Check the No.7 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under- dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES - Go to step 20.
NO - Short to ground in the No.7 (7.5 A) circuit; and continue troubleshooting.
20. Disconnect the right side wire harness 16P connector (A) from the dashboard wire harness A 16P connector (B).
21. Connect the dashboard wire harness A 18P connector to the driver's under-dash fuse/relay box.
22. Turn ignition switch ON (II) for thirty seconds, then turn it OFF.
23. Check the No.7 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under- dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES - Go to step 24.
NO - Short to ground in the dashboard wire harness A; replace the dashboard wire harness A.
24. Disconnect the OPDS unit harness 8P connector from the OPDS unit.
25. Reconnect the right side wire harness 16P connector (A) to the dashboard wire harness A 16P connector (B).
26. Turn the ignition switch ON (II) for thirty seconds. Then turn it OFF.
27. Check the No.7 (7.5 A) fuse in the driver's under- dash fuse/relay box.
Is the fuse OK?
YES - Faulty OPDS unit; replace the OPDS unit.
NO - Short to ground in the right side wire harness or OPDS unit harness; If the OPDS unit harness is OK, replace the right side wire harness.
28. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
OPDS Unit Harness 8P Connector (Wire Side Of Female Terminals):
29. Check resistance between the No.8 terminal of the OPDS unit harness 8P connector and body ground. There should be 0 - 1.0 ohm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 30.
NO - Open in the right side wire harness or OPDS unit harness; if the OPDS unit harness is OK, replace the right side wire harness.
30. Disconnect the side airbag connectors (A).
31. Disconnect the SRS main harness 14P connector (A) from the SRS unit (B).
SRS Main Harness 14P Connector (Wire Side Of Female Terminals):
32. Check resistance between the No.1 terminal of the SRS main harness 14P connector and body ground. There should be 1 M ohm or more.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 33.
NO - Short to ground in the SRS main harness or in the OPDS unit harness; replace the faulty harness.
33. Check resistance between the No.1 terminal of the SRS main harness 14P connector and the No.7 terminal of the OPDS unit harness 8P connector. There should be 0 - 1.0 ohm.
Is the resistance as specified?
YES - Go to step 34.
NO - Open in the SRS main harness and the OPDS unit harness; replace the faulty harness.
SRS Main Harness 14P Connector (Wire Side Of Female Terminals):
34. Turn the ignition switch ON (II).
35. Check for voltage between the No.1 terminal of the SRS main harness 14P connector and body ground. There should be 0.5 V or less.
Is the voltage as specified?
YES - Go to step 36.
NO - Short to power in the SRS main harness or in the OPDS unit harness; replace the faulty harness.
36. Turn the ignition switch OFF.
37. Install a known-good OPDS unit.
38. Reconnect all connectors.
39. Initialize the OPDS unit.
40. Erase the DTC memory.
41. Read the DTC.
Is DTC 15-1 indicated?
YES - Go to step 42.
NO - END.
42. Turn the ignition switch ON (II), and check that the side airbag indicator light comes on for about five seconds, and then goes off.
Does the side airbag indicator stay on?
YES - Faulty OPDS unit or SRS unit; replace the OPDS unit. If the problem is still present, replace the SRS unit.
NO - Faulty side airbag indicator light circuit; Go to troubleshooting 15-2.
