Accessory Trunk Spoiler Damages Trunk Paint

BACKGROUND
If the vehicle is driven on rough roads most of the time, the trunk spoiler may damage the paint on the trunk. Although operating conditions this severe are unlikely, this corrective action will prevent any possible problems. Perform this procedure on all vehicles, within the affected VIN ranges that are equipped with a trunk spoiler.

CORRECTIVE ACTION
Check the engine compartment VIN or the trunk spoiler for indications of this repair being done. If necessary install the base packing kit listed under PARTS INFORMATION.

REPAIR PROCEDURE

Inspection

1. Open the hood, and check the engine compartment VIN for a punch mark below the last digit.

- If there is a punch mark, disregard this bulletin, the repair has already been made.

- If there is no punch mark, go to step 2.

2. Open the trunk, and carefully remove the trunk spoiler.

3. Inspect the trunk spoiler pads.

- If the pads are black, the base packing kit has already been installed. Go to step 4 of Installation.

- If the pads are gray, go to step 1 of Installation.

Installation

1. Carefully push the spoiler wire harness into the spoiler.

2. Remove the adhesive backing from one of the black spoiler pads. Carefully align the black pad with the existing gray pad on the base of the spoiler. Press the black pad firmly into place. Repeat this step on the other end of the spoiler.

3. Pull the spoiler wire harness out of the spoiler.

4. Carefully reinstall the spoiler on the trunk, and tighten the mounting nuts to 7 to 10 Nm (5 to 7 lb-ft).

5. Center-punch a completion mark below the last digit of the engine compartment VIN.
