DIAGNOSIS
1. Measure the gap between the sash trim and the quarter glass molding. The gap should be 4 mm to 6 mm (preferably 5 mm).
2. Measure the height of the sash trim to the quarter glass molding. The height should be 2 mm to 4 mm (preferably 3 mm).
3. Go to the appropriate repair procedure:
^ If both measurements are within specification, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B.
^ If either or both of the measurements are not within specification, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE A.
REPAIR PROCEDURE A
1. Lower the glass of the affected door.
^ It the sash trim gap was not within specification, go to step 2, and skip step 3.
^ If the sash trim height was not within specification, go to step 3.
^ If both the sash trim gap and height were not within specification, do both steps 2 and 3.
2. Adjust the sash trim gap by striking the window sash with a rubber mallet.
3. Adjust the sash trim height inward by bracing the inside of the door with your knee and pulling the window sash toward you. Adjust the sash trim height outward by placing a wood block (2 x 4 x 12 inches) horizontally between the window sash and the quarter glass molding and pushing the door against the wood block.
NOTE:
Be sure to wrap the wood block in a shop towel to prevent damaging the door.
4. Remeasure the sash trim gap and height. Verify whether the door opens and closes properly.
^ If the door opens and closes properly, return the vehicle to the customer.
^ If the door does not open and close properly, go to REPAIR PROCEDURE B.
REPAIR PROCEDURE B
1. Remove the three screws and the sash trim from the affected door.
2. Remove and discard the existing door sub-seal.
3. Install the new door sub-seal.
4. Reinstall the sash trim.
5. Verify that the door opens and closes properly.
