Clearance Inspection

NOTE: Two types of 36 x 44 x 29 mm collars and five types of thrust washers for 1st gear are available for the adjustment of the clearance between the gears on the countershaft.




1. Assemble the gears, spacer collars, thrust washer, synchro hub, synchro ring, etc. as shown.




2. Install the needle bearing.
3. Install the ball bearing using a press as shown.




4. Install the spring washer.
5. Tighten the countershaft locknut to the correct torque.

NOTE: Place the shaft in a vice with soft jaws.




6. Measure and record the clearance between the 1st gear and thrust washer.

Thrust Washer:




7. If the clearance is out of tolerance, select the appropriate thrust washer for the correct clearance from the charts.




9. Measure the clearance between the 2nd gear and 3rd gear.

Spacer Collar:




10. If the clearance is out of tolerance, select the appropriate spacer collar for the correct clearance from the charts.
11. Replace 2nd gear if its thickness is less than the service limit.
12. Stake the locknut tab in the groove.
