Overhaul

Carburetor Assembly:




NOTE: Because of the similarity between the two carburetors, they will be discussed as one. Disregard any step that does not apply to the unit being serviced.

1. Remove carburetor assembly, refer to CARBURETOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION.
2. Remove power valve cover and diaphragm.
3. Remove accelerator pump cover, diaphragm and rod.
4. Remove float chamber.
5. Remove float and float valve.
6. Remove choke opener diaphragm and thermowax valve.
7. Remove accelerator pump linkage.
8. Remove vacuum chamber.
9. With vacuum piston out of its bore, remove the stopper, needle holder and jet needle.
10. Remove primary slow mixture cut-off valve.
11. Remove power valve, main and slow jets.
12. Remove idle mixture plug.
13. Count turns required to seat idle mixture screw and then remove screw.
14. Remove any remaining parts.
15. Soak float chamber, carb body, vacuum chamber and vacuum piston in a suitable carburetor solvent.
16. When thoroughly clean, rinse well with water,
17. Blow all parts dry with compressed air.
18. Blow compressed air through all internal passages to dry and ensure no blockages exist.
19. Reassembly is the reverse of this procedure with the following exception:
a. Reinstall idle mixture screw until it seats, then back out the number of turns recorded in step 13.
b. Replace all seals and gaskets.
c. Replace float valve.
d. Inspect float and replace if required.

Float Level Setting:






20. Adjust float level to 0.6 ± 0.04in (16 ± 1mm) by bending float.
21. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES for choke setting and additional adjustments.
22. Reinstall carburetors.
23. Refer to ADJUSTMENT PROCEDURES for throttle cable adjustment.
