Camshaft Gear/Sprocket: Service and Repair

CAMSHAFT PULLEY REMOVAL


Alternator View:






1. Disconnect the negative battery terminal.

NOTE: If the vehicle is equipped with an anti-theft radio, be sure to get the five digit code from the customer BEFORE:
- disconnecting the battery
- removing the No. 24 (7.5 A) fuse (in the under-hood fuse/relay box)
- removing the radio
After reconnecting power and turning the radio ON, the word "CODE" will be displayed. Enter the code at this time.

2. Disconnect the alternator terminal and the connector, then remove the engine wire harness from the cylinder head cover.

3. Remove the cylinder head cover.
4. Remove the timing belt upper cover.


Cam Gear TDC Alignment Marks:






5. To ease reassembly, turn the camshaft pulley until the "UP" mark faces up, and the front timing mark is aligned with the cylinder head cover surface.


Camshaft Pulley Removal:






6. Remove the retaining bolt, the camshaft pulley and the key.
7. Inspect cam seal.
8. Reverse steps to install.
Camshaft pulley retaining bolt torque: 38 Nm (3.8 kg-m, 27 ft lb).
