A/C Compressor R/R Procedure
This new procedure is easier and takes less time than the one in '88-89 Service Manuals because you are working from the underside and removing fewer parts.
REMOVAL/REPLACEMENT PROCEDURE
NOTE:
If the procedure below is followed exactly, the front suspension settings will not change and realignment will not be required.
Si Model only:
1. Remove the air intake resonator.
All Models:
2. Discharge the system and then remove the compressor drive belt.
3. Remove:
^ discharge and suction hoses
^ 2 upper compressor mounting bolts
^ front motor mount through-bolt (12 mm x 95 mm)
4. Put the car on a lift and raise it.
5. Remove the front splash shield.
6. Loosen the 2 left (driver's) side radius rod-to-control arm bolts.
7. Remove the center beam.
8. Remove the front beam mounting bolts.
9. Cut a piece of wood 10 inches long. Insert the wood between the left end of the front beam and the body so the front beam is pushed downward.
10. Disconnect the A/C compressor wire harness connectors and remove the 2 lower compressor mounting bolts.
11. Remove the compressor through the 10 inch gap created between the front beam and the radiator.
CAUTION:
Be careful not to damage any of the radiator fins.
12. Reverse the procedure for installation.

This repair, like any repair performed after warranty expiration, may be eligible for goodwill consideration by the District Service Manager. You must request consideration, and get the DSM's decision, before starting work. Use the following claim information if DSM authorization is received.
