The Atmospheric Pressure Sensor is a silicon diaphragm strain gauge type of pressure sensor. The sensor converts pressure into an electrical signal and inputs that signal to the ECU. This signal is used as a reference and is compared with the MAP sensor signal to calculate the engine load condition.
