Fuel Shut-off Solenoid Relay: Testing and Inspection
This test assumes vehicle does not run. If vehicle runs, refer to FUEL PRESSURE TEST for further testing.Fig. 3 Fuel Cut-Off Relay Location:
1. With ignition off, remove underdash cover and pull down the fuse box/relay panel.
Fuel Cut-Off Relay Socket Identification:
2. Remove fuel cut-off relay.
3. Check for continuity between socket terminal 3 and ground.
Expected result:
Approx. O ohms. If OK, continue. If not a wiring related fault is indicated. Refer to CHASSIS ELECTRICAL DIAGRAMS for additional information.
4. Check for voltage between socket terminals 2 & 3 with ignition switch on.
Expected result:
Battery voltage. If OK, continue. If not a wiring related fault is indicated. Refer to CHASSIS ELECTRICAL DIAGRAMS for additional information.
5. Check for voltage between socket terminals 3 & 4 with ignition switch on.
Expected result:
Battery voltage. If OK, continue. If not a wiring related fault is indicated. Refer to CHASSIS ELECTRICAL DIAGRAMS for additional information.
6. With ignition off insert a jumper wire between socket terminals 1 & 2. Turn ignition on.
Expected result:
Fuel pump should run, if not refer to COMPONENT TESTING PROCEDURES for fuel pump testing procedures.
This test verifies circuit operation, if desired results are achieved fuel cut-off relay is defective and should be replaced.
