Idle Speed/Throttle Actuator - Mechanical: Testing and Inspection

This procedure is for Manual Transmission equipped vehicles only. For Automatic Transmission equipped vehicles refer to the testing proceeds under IDLE BOOST SYSTEM

Fig. 30 Dashpot System Diagram (Manual Transmission):

1. Connect tachometer to engine, start and run until cooling fan comes on.

2. Disconnect vacuum hose #6 and check vacuum with gauge.
3. If vacuum is not present, inspect and replace vacuum lines or check valve as required.
4. If engine rpm changed when vacuum line was disconnected proceed to step 5. If rpm did not change check throttle controller linkage for free movement. If linkage is OK replace throttle controller.

5. Check engine rpm adjust as required.

Expected result:
1700 ± 300 rpm. Done.
