Valve Clearance: Adjustments
NOTE: Valves should be adjusted with cylinder head temperature below 100° F (38°C)Valve Arrangement:
1. Remove valve cover
#1 Piston At TDC:
2. Align #1 cylinder to TDC. The "UP" mark on the camshaft pulley should be at the top, and the TDC grooves on the back side of the camshaft pulley should align with the cylinder head surface. The distributor must point to #1 spark plug terminal.
VALVE CLEARANCE:
INTAKE AND AUXILIARY: .005 - .007 in (.12 - .17 mm)
EXHAUST: .010 - .012 in (.25 - .30 mm)
LOCKNUT TORQUE VALUE:
INTAKE AND EXHAUST: 14 ftlb (20 Nm)
AUXILIARY: 10 ftlb (14 Nm)
Checking Valve Clearance:
3. Using a feeler gauge adjust valve clearance on #1 cylinder.
#3 Piston At TDC:
4. Rotate crankshaft 180° counterclockwise. TDC groove on the camshaft pulley should align with the indentation on the belt cover. The "UP" mark should not be visible. Distributor rotor should be pointing to the #3 spark plug terminal.
5. Use the above specifications to adjust valves on cylinder #3.
#4 Piston At TDC:
6. Rotate crankshaft 180° counterclockwise. TDC grooves on the back side of the camshaft pulley should align with the cylinder head surface. The distributor must align to #4 spark plug terminal.
7. Use the above specifications to adjust valves on cylinder #4.
#2 Piston At TDC:
8. Rotate the crankshaft 180° counterclockwise. TDC mark on camshaft pulley should align with indentation on timing belt cover. Distributor rotor should align with the #2 spark plug terminal.
9. Use the above specifications to adjust valves on cylinder #2.
