Carburetor Synchronization

Fig. 22 Installing synchronization adapters:

Fig. 23 Adjusting carburetor synchronization.:

1. Remove air cleaner cover and element, then the intake screens and air intake flanges.
2. Install synchronization adapters and torque attaching nuts to 3.6 ft. lbs., Fig. 22.
3. Install suitable tachometer, then start engine and allow to reach normal operating temperature.
4. Measure air flow through both adapters using carburetor synchronizer.
5. If flow rates are identical, synchronization is satisfactory.
6. If flow rates are different, loosen adjusting screw locknut, then turn synchronization screw clockwise to decrease air flow or counterclockwise to increase air flow, Figs. 23 . The synchronization adjusting screw only affects the right carburetor. If flow rates can't be balanced, check for air leaks or carbon build-up on throttle valve.
7. Tighten adjusting screw locknut and recheck flow rates.
8. Remove carburetor synchronizer and adapters, then install air cleaner assembly.
