MIL Circuit Troubleshooting


Exc. 1987-88 Accord & 1988 Prelude
1. Turn ignition switch on and observe
warning lamp. The PGM-FI warning lamp should come on for approximately 2 seconds. If lamp comes on, proceed to step 3. If lamp does not come on, proceed to step 2.
2. Check the following:
a. Blown warning light bulb.
b. Fuse No. 9 on 1985 Accord fuse No. 3 on Civic and CRX, fuse No. 2 for 1986 Accord or fuse No. 5 for 1986-87 Prelude.
c. Open circuit yellow wire between fuse indicated in step b and combination meter.
d. Open circuit in green/red wire on Accord and Prelude models or green/orange wire on CRX Si and Civic models between combination meter and control unit.
e. On 1987 Prelude, open circuit in black wires between ECU terminals A2 and A4 and ground 1.
3. On 1987 Prelude, if there is now no problem, substitute a known good ECU and repeat test. Exc. on 1987 Prelude, proceed to step 4.
4. After the PGM-FI warning light and self-diagnosis indicators have been turned on, turn ignition switch off, then back on.
5. If the LED display fails to operate when ignition switch is turned on again, proceed as follows:
a. Check for blown fuse.
b. On Accord and Prelude models, check for open circuit in white/yellow wire between ECU terminal A17 and fuse No. 19 or hazard fuse.
c. On CRX Si and Civic models, check for open circuit in white/green wire between ECU terminal A17 and fuse No. 10.
