Ratcheting Noise in 5-Speed Transmission
PROBLEM
A "ratcheting" noise from the transmission while driving in 1st gear, especially when making a left turn.
Shift Arm Assembly:
PROBABLE CAUSE
The shift arm holder may be worn or damaged, allowing the reverse idler gear to "tap" against the synchronizer sleeve on 1st/2nd gear.
CORRECTIVE ACTION
Replace the shift arm holder and the reverse shift fork detent ball.
