Description
The catalytic converter is designed to reduce hydrocarbon and carbon monoxide pollutants from the exhaust gas. A cutaway view of the converter is shown in Fig. 154.
Operation
The flow of hot exhaust gases activates the catalyst, causing it to promote oxidation of the unburned pollutants. With the catalytic system, it is especially important that the carburetor and distributor systems be properly adjusted. The converter also requires the use of unleaded fuel only.
