Line Pressure Check

- Tools Required:
- J 35752 Oil Pressure Gage Adapter
- J 21867 Universal Pressure Gage Set

Important: This test should only be performed at a normal operating fluid temperature of 50 to 80° C (122 to 176° F).

1. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
2. Remove six bolts and left splash shield.

3. Remove the line pressure tap bolt below the rear case cover.

4. Install J 35752 into the line pressure tap.
5. Install J 21867 into J 35752.
6. Lower vehicle.
7. Route J 21867 hose over the front fender and through the driver's window so that it can be read from the passenger compartment.
8. Connect a scan tool and monitor engine speed (rpm).
9. Apply parking brake and block vehicle wheels.
10. Press brake pedal fully and start engine.

CAUTION: For Steps 11 through 21, procedures for testing line pressure at Idle and stall speeds, the brake pedal must be fully pressed throughout the measurement procedure. Failure to do so could result personal injury and/or property damage.

11. Place manual selector in Drive (D) position with the Overdrive switch pressed and record line pressure at idle speed (650 to 750 rpm).

NOTICE: DO NOT run engine at stall speed for more than five seconds continuously or engine oil and transaxle fluid temperatures may become excessively high.

12. Press accelerator pedal fully at Wide Open Throttle (WOT) and record line pressure in Drive (D) position with the Overdrive switch pressed at stall speed (2400 to 2700 rpm). Release accelerator pedal.

13. Keeping brake pedal fully pressed and manual selector in Drive (D) position, release Overdrive switch and record line pressure at idle speed (650 to 750 rpm).
14. Press accelerator pedal fully (WOT) and record line pressure in Drive (D) position at stall speed (2400 to 2700 rpm). Release accelerator pedal.
15. Keeping brake pedal fully pressed, place manual selector in Second (2) position and record line pressure at idle speed (650 to 750 rpm).
16. Press accelerator pedal fully (WOT) and record line pressure in Second (2) position at stall speed (2400 to 2700 rpm). Release accelerator pedal.
17. Keeping brake pedal fully pressed, place manual selector in Low (L) position and record line pressure at idle speed (650 to 750 rpm).
18. Press accelerator pedal fully (WOT) and record line pressure in Low (L) position at stall speed (2400 to 2700 rpm). Release accelerator pedal.
19. Keeping brake pedal fully pressed, place manual selector in Reverse (R) position and record line pressure at idle speed (650 to 750 rpm).
20. Press accelerator pedal fully (WOT) and record line pressure in Reverse (R) position at stall speed (2400 to 2700 rpm). Release accelerator pedal.
21. Place the manual selector in Park (P) position and turn ignition switch to LOCK.
22. Disconnect scan tool.
23. Remove J 21867 from the passenger compartment.
24. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
25. Remove J 21867 from the J 35752.
26. Remove J 35752 from the line pressure tap.
27. Install the line pressure tap bolt into the line pressure tap below the rear case cover.
- Tighten line pressure tap bolt to 9 Nm (80 inch lbs.).
28. Install the left splash shield and secure with six bolts.
- Tighten splash shield bolts to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).
29. Lower vehicle.

Evaluation
Compare line pressure test results with the Line Pressure Test Results. If line pressure is not as specified, refer to the LINE PRESSURE DIAGNOSIS for further evaluation.
