Park/Neutral Position (PNP) Switch
REMOVE OR DISCONNECT1. Negative (-) battery cable.
2. Raise and suitably support vehicle.
3. Six bolts and left splash shield from vehicle.
4. One nut, one lock washer and shift select cable from manual lever.
5. PNP switch electrical connector from PNP switch.
6. One nut, one lock washer and manual lever from manual shaft.
7. Unstake lock plate behind manual shaft nut.
8. Manual shaft nut and lock plate from PNP switch.
9. Two bolts and PNP switch from transaxle.
Inspect
- For PNP switch diagnosis procedures, ELECTRICAL DIAGNOSIS.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. PNP switch to transaxle; secure with two bolts. Do not tighten fully.
2. Lock plate and manual shaft nut onto PNP switch.
- Tighten manual shaft nut to 6.9 Nm (61 inch lbs.).
3. Stake lock plate over manual shaft nut.
Adjust
- PNP switch by aligning the neutral basic line scribed in the PNP switch with the groove in the PNP switch sleeve.
- Tighten park/Neutral Position (PNP) switch bolts to 5.4 Nm (48 inch lbs.).
4. Manual lever onto manual shaft; secure with one lock washer and one nut.
- Tighten manual lever nut to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
5. PNP switch electrical connector to PNP switch.
6. Shift select cable to manual lever; secure with one lock washer and one nut.
Adjust
- Shift select cable.
- Tighten shift select cable nut to 12 Nm (106 inch lbs.).
7. Left splash shield to vehicle; secure with six bolts.
- Tighten left splash shield bolts to 5 Nm (44 inch lbs.).
8. Lower vehicle.
9. Negative (-) battery cable.
Important: Upon completion of PNP switch installation, perform the following steps to ensure proper operation:
A. Apply parking brake and block vehicle wheels.
B. With the manual selector in P (park) position, turn ignition switch to START and verify that the starter motor operates.
C. Stop engine and return ignition switch to the ON position.
D. Move the manual selector from P (park) position to N (neutral) position, turn ignition switch to START position and verify that the starter motor operates.
E. Verify that the starter motor DOES NOT operate in D, 2, L, or R.
