N. Fluid Pump Assembly and Torque Converter Housing

INSTALL OR CONNECT

- Tool Required:
- J 36850 Transjel Transmission Assembly Lubricant

1. Apply J 36850 to the new fluid pump seal.
2. Fluid pump assembly onto transaxle case; secure with six bolts.
- Tighten fluid pump bolts to 25 Nm (18 ft. lbs.).

Measure

- Tool Required:
- J 7872 Dial Indicator





- Input shaft end play using a J 7872. Place the J 7872 on the end of the input shaft and gently move the input shaft up and down using two screwdrivers while observing the J 7872. Input shaft end play should fall within 0.3 to 0.9 mm (0.012 to 0.035 inch). If input shaft does not fall within specification, replace the forward clutch outer bearing race on the end of the fluid pump stator shaft with a suitable size race. Two sizes of forward clutch outer races are available.
- Available forward clutch outer race sizes:
- 0.8 mm (0.031 inch)
- 1.4 mm (0.055 inch)





3. Differential lubrication seal into transaxle case.





4. Differential assembly into transaxle case.
5. Apply RTV silicone sealer GM P/N 1052917, or equivalent, to the torque converter housing mating surface.





Important: There are two different lengths of torque converter housing bolts. Three of the seventeen bolts are 35 mm (1.38 inch) in length. The remaining fourteen are 30 mm (1.18 inch). Make sure all bolts are installed in their correct positions.

6. Torque converter housing onto transaxle case; secure with seventeen bolts.
- Tighten torque converter housing bolts to 29 Nm (21 ft. lbs.).
