G. Rear Planetary Gearset and Low One-Way Clutch

Important: The rear planetary ring gear is a part of the intermediate shaft component group. For rear planetary ring gear disassembly and inspection refer to INTERMEDIATE SHAFT AND COUNTERSHAFT DRIVE GEAR.

Inspect

- Low one-way clutch before disassembly by placing low one-way clutch onto the rear planetary carrier, holding the low one-way clutch stationary and rotating the rear planetary carrier. The rear planetary carrier should turn freely in a counterclockwise direction and should not turn in a clockwise direction. If the low one-way clutch is installed correctly (finished side up) on the rear planetary carrier and the rear planetary carrier can be turned clockwise, replace the low one-way clutch.

NOTICE: The low one-way clutch should be disassembled for inspection purposes only. If excessive wear or damage is found in any component of the low one-way clutch upon inspection, replace the low one-way clutch as an assembly.

REMOVE OR DISCONNECT

1. Low one-way clutch snap rings from both sides of low one-way clutch outer race.

2. Low one-way clutch retainers from both sides of low one-way clutch outer race.
3. Low one-way clutch spray assembly from low one-way clutch outer race.

Clean
- All rear planetary gearset components and dry thoroughly.

Inspect
1. Low one-way clutch spray assembly for excessive wear or damage. Replace low one-way clutch as necessary.
2. Low one-way clutch outer race for excessive wear fir damage. Replace low one-way clutch as necessary.
3. Rear planetary Carrier for excessive wear or damage. Replace as necessary.

Measure

- Rear planetary carrier pinion gear thrust clearance using a feeler gage. Standard front planetary carrier pinion gear thrust clearance should fall within 0.2 to 0.5 mm (0.008 to 0.020 inch). If front planetary carrier pinion gear thrust clearance is greater than 0.5 mm (0.020 inch), replace the front planetary carrier.

INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Low one-way clutch spray assembly into low one-way clutch outer race with the flanged side of the spray assembly toward the finished (shiny) side of the low one-way clutch outer race.
2. Low one-way clutch retainers into both sides of low one-way clutch outer race.
3. Low one-way clutch snap rings into both sides of low one-way clutch outer race.

Inspect
- Low one-way clutch after assembly by placing low one-way clutch onto the rear planetary carrier, holding the low one-way clutch stationary and rotating the rear planetary carrier. The rear planetary carrier should turn freely in a counterclockwise direction and should not turn in a clockwise direction. If the low one-way clutch is installed correctly (finished side up) on the rear planetary carrier and the rear planetary carrier can be turned clockwise, replace the low one-way clutch.
