O/D Off Indicator Does Not Light
CIRCUIT DESCRIPTION
When the Overdrive switch button is released, a signal is sent to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM). When the PCM receives this signal, it lights the O/D OFF indicator in the instrument cluster, informing the driver that the transaxle will not shift into overdrive. If the button is pressed, the PCM receives a signal, the O/D OFF indicator goes out and the transaxle is permitted to shift into overdrive when appropriate.
DIAGNOSTIC AIDS
Check GAUGE Fuse for opens, and grounds for clean and tight connections.
Check for poor connections at component and in-line harness connector terminal connections before replacing components.
TEST DESCRIPTION
Numbers below refer to the circled numbers on the diagnostic chart.
1. The Powertrain OBD system check prompts the technician to complete some basic checks and store the freeze frame data on the scan tool if applicable. This creates an electronic copy of the data taken when the fault occurred. The information is then stored in the scan tool for later reference.
2. Checks O/D OFF indicator light by jumping switch to ground.
3. Determines if the ground circuit is faulty and checks for a faulty Overdrive switch.
4. Checks for an open LT GRN wire or open indicator bulb.
