Possible Points of Fluid Leaks
TRANSAXLE FLUID PAN LEAKING
Inspect
- For incorrectly tightened attaching bolts.
- For improperly installed or damaged gasket.
- For damaged fluid pan.
- For incorrect gasket.
VENT LEAKING
Inspect
- Fluid level indicator for overfilled system.
- Fluid color for water or coolant in fluid.
- Fluid will appear milky.
- For incorrect fluid level indicator.
- For plugged or restricted vent.
- For plugged or restricted drain-back holes.
- For mispositioned fluid pump-to-case gasket.
- For porous casting.
CASE LEAKING
Inspect
- For damaged or missing filler tube O-ring.
- For incorrectly installed or missing filler tube bracket bolt.
- For damaged or improperly installed transaxle solenoid wire harness O-ring.
- For damaged or loose vehicle speed sensor (VSS) O-ring.
- For loose or damaged fluid cooler fittings.
- For manual shift shaft fluid seal.
- For damaged, missing or improperly installed differential cover gasket.
- For damaged or missing intermediate servo cover seals.
- For damaged, missing or improperly installed torque converter housing-to-transaxle case gasket.
- For worn or damaged drive shaft seals.
- For porous casting.
CONVERTER SIDE LEAKING
- Converter seal damaged.
- Seal lip cut (check converter hub for damage).
- Garter spring missing from seal.
- Converter leak in weld area (replace torque converter).
- Porous casting (case or pump).
FLUID OUT THE VENT OR FILLER TUBE
- Overfilled.
- Water or coolant in fluid (fluid will appear milky).
- Porous casting.
- Incorrect fluid level indicator.
- Plugged vent.
- Drain-back holes plugged.
