Differential Adjustment
- Tool Required:- J 35405 Differential Preload Wrench
1. Place outer race and adjusting shim onto right side bearing.
2. Place differential assembly into case.
3. Install left bearing retainer. Do not install the O-ring yet. Snug bolts evenly and gradually while turning the ring gear.
4. Install right side bearing cap. Snug bolts evenly and gradually while turning the ring gear.
Tighten
- Left bearing retainer to 19 N.m (14 lb. ft.).
Adjust
- Differential side bearing preload. Using a J 35405 differential preload wrench and a torque wrench, measure the preload of the side bearing.
- Preload (at starting).
- New beating 1.0 to 1.6 N.m (8.7 to 13.9 lb. in.).
- Reused beating 0.5 to 0.8 N.m (4.3 to 6.9 lb. in.).
- If the preload is not within specifications, remove the differential from the case.
- Select another right adjusting shim.
Important
- The preload will change about 0.3 to 0.4 N.m (2.6 to 3.5 lb. in.) with each shim size.
INSTALL OR CONNECT
1. Remove left bearing retainer.
2. O-ring
3. Bearing retainer and bolts.
Tighten
- Bearing retainer bolts to 19 N.m (14 lb. ft.).
- Right bearing cap bolts to 49 N.m (36 lb. ft.).
