Accessing and Reading Diagnostic Trouble Codes

All SRS DTCs are read using flash code diagnostics. flash code diagnostics are enabled either by connecting a jumper wire between terminal TC and terminal E1 (ground) on the data link connector (DLC) with the ignition switch in ACC or ON. Grounding terminal TC of the DLC pulls the Diagnosis circuits terminal 6, of the center sensor assembly low and signals the center sensor assembly to enter flash code diagnostic display mode.

The center sensor assembly displays DTCs by flashing the AIR BAG indicator. The AIR BAG indicator is located in the instrument panel cluster (IPC). Each DTC displayed consists of a number of flashes which represent the first digit, a 2.5 second pause, then a number of flashes which represent the second digit of the DTC. Each DTC is flashed once before moving on to the next one. After all DTCs have been displayed, the entire sequence will be repeated until the jumper wire is removed from the DLC.

If there are no DTCs present, the center sensor assembly will flash the AIR BAG indicator continuously. This indicates that FLASH CODE diagnostics have been enabled. The center sensor assembly will continue to flash the AIR BAG indicator until the jumper wire is removed from the DLC.
